Maria Brown

María Jessica Brown (b. 1982, Texas), is a local artist living and working in San Antonio, Texas. María’s medium(s) of choice include oil painting and ceramic sculpture. Her style tends to lean representational magical realism. The content of her artworks are recognizable inanimate objects and animals as metaphors for experiences, people, and emotions.

María has been an artist her whole life, as some of her earliest childhood memories are of her painting. She is a nurse by trade, which significantly influences her content. María acquired her Associates of Art from San Antonio College in 2021, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in painting and a Minor in Art History in 2024 (Summa Cum Laude).

María continues to work as a full-time artist in San Antonio participating in multiple shows per year. In 2024 she was awarded the “Working Artist Grant” by Contemporary Art Month (CAM).
